Have you mastered the role of the photo foreground?

Although the foreground is not a necessary element of a photo, in scenery, portraits and other subjects, many times having the foreground will make the photo more artistic.

What is a prospect?

A person or object in the shot that is in front of the subject or near the leading edge. In a lens frame, it is used to foil the subject or form a part of a dramatic environment. It has the functions of setting off the main body and decorating the environment, and helps to enhance the spatial depth of the picture, balance the composition and beautify the picture.

To put it bluntly, the scene in front of the subject and close to the lens is called the foreground.

What are the specific roles of prospects?

1. Increase the sense of space and perspective of the picture

Excellent photography works are to present three-dimensional effects in two-dimensional photos. Setting the foreground in the photo is to form the spatial relationship between the foreground, the middle view and the long view, thus increasing the sense of space in the picture. This is also the central role of the foreground, which is used extensively in actual shooting. For example, the seaside scenery photo below adds rocks close to the lens as the foreground, and the whole picture immediately becomes a three-dimensional sense of space.

2. Decorate the picture and set off the theme

In most cases, photos convey a beautiful theme. Especially landscape photography and portrait photography. So we will look for elements that beautify the picture while determining the subject. For example, in the two photos below, the foreground decorates the whole picture. Of course, the prospect can be real or virtual.

3. The role of balanced picture

Visual balance is the basic requirement of a photo. Qualified photos shouldn't have the feeling of tilting to one side. However, because the subject sometimes needs to be in a conspicuous position and other reasons, it will inevitably lead to the overall imbalance. So arrange a foreground in the right place, and you can balance the picture.

4. Highlight the role of the main body, guidance, and emphasis

There is a guide line composition mode in the classic composition mode, and there is also a box composition mode. These two composition modes make use of the guiding and emphasizing functions of the foreground to highlight the subject respectively.

The role of the foreground, in addition to the four points mentioned above, sometimes the foreground has the function of occlusion; Explain the functions of time, environment, etc.

Form a sharp contrast or echo with the main content. So as to perfect the picture and form a thought-provoking theme.

Note: Although the prospect is good, it can't be used casually. For example, when using it, you should pay attention to the relevance of the foreground to the subject, and you can't use irrelevant foregrounds; In addition, the prospect can't overwhelm the host or distract attention.
