How to crop the correct position of the later portrait

How to crop the correct position of the later portraitCropping is one of the most basic operations of post-retouching pictures, and it is also the most commonly used post-retouching operation. In ordinary shooting, we can't pay attention to taking a complete photo that we think is the best. Some photos may have a bad angle, or the photos contain some interference factors in the picture. In this case, most of them are cropped, but we tell you, cropping is not so simple.

It's not so simple to crop a good picture. Everyone has different feelings about the picture in their hearts, and different cropping methods can also show different feelings. Similarly, there is no cropping method that must be correct. As for how to crop it, it depends on what effect you want, instead of cropping some interference factors.

First of all, we should determine the length of the portrait photo. The length is one of the factors that define the portrait. Our picture can contain the whole body part and the environment, and at the same time, we can focus on specific parts.

When choosing a full-body photo, the biggest feature is that you can cover more surrounding environment into the picture, and use the environment to tell stories or create an atmosphere. If you want the model to occupy a more dominant position in the picture, you can cut it into a half-length photo and start cutting it at the knee or waist.

If you think the background of the shooting is not important, and the emphasis is on the model in the picture, then cut it to a close-up of the model and cut it above the chest or shoulders, so that the model's eyes and expressions can be highlighted and the model's movements can be completely ignored. However, this has a lot to do with the performance of the model and the shooting angle, so we should be careful when cutting.

Once we know what kind of portrait to shoot, we can directly compose it during the shooting process, but it doesn't rule out that sometimes this is not realistic. For example, when we are far away from the model, we get the desired expression, but when we are close, it doesn't taste right, so we can only use the photo taken from a distance to use our brains.

In the process of cropping, pixels will inevitably be lost. If too many pixels are cropped, in other words, if the characters in the photo are enlarged too much, the resolution of the photo will drop, which will make the photo look a little rough. Therefore, more work should be put into the early shooting process, so that the later cutting can be controllable.

It's important to know where to crop, otherwise you will probably end up with a very embarrassing photo. There is a rule of thumb about cutting that says don't cut at the joint position. We should try our best to avoid ankles, knees and elbows in the cutting process. When cutting shoulders and necks, we should also pay attention to either keeping them all or cutting them all. Don't cut them in half, leave them in half.

When shooting or cutting a close-up of the face, you should pay attention to putting the model's eyes on the upper half of the composition. You should also pay attention to not cutting the model's neck, not cutting it on the chin, and keeping the complete forehead. If you really need to cut it at the top, you can cut off some hair on the top of the head.

Finally, many later softwares have cropping functions, and they will preset auxiliary lines, such as Lightroom. In the process of cropping, we can use the built-in auxiliary lines of the software to help us crop and make the picture more harmonious.

Cropping is easy, but we should be more clear that cropping is just a remedy. We think that the early stage is still important in photography. Although some friends will make fun of it, doesn't photography depend entirely on the later stage, but what we want to say is that if the early stage is not shot well, it can't be repaired in the later stage.
