Many photographers may use wide-angle lenses to take architectural photos or scenery films. These are scenes with a relatively large range of content. Wide-angle lenses may also be used to take portraits in some relatively narrow spaces to capture the whole body of the Model as much as possible, but these are only a small part. Here, Gao En Costume Photography Company will introduce to you the advantages of wide-angle lenses.
1. Deeper depth of field
Unlike portrait photography, which pursues a large aperture to separate the background, in architectural photography, landscape photography, even still life photography and environmental portrait photography, we often need a wider depth of field to make the background clearer, so as to set off the subject through the background.

Under the same preconditions (aperture, distance), a wider focal length can bring a deeper depth of field than a telephoto lens, so that a large amount of content in the range is in the focus range, and it is even more difficult to shoot blur.
2. Add foreground to landscape photos
There is no rule that wide-angle lenses must be used to shoot landscapes or buildings. Some photographers like to use telephoto lenses to shoot landscapes. However, one of the advantages of shooting landscapes with a wide angle is that the foreground can be included in the picture.

Students who take photos with telephoto lens will understand that when the distance is too close to the foreground, there is no way for the telephoto lens to include the foreground in the picture, otherwise either the foreground will occupy most of the content in the picture, or the distance is too close and the background will be blurred. The wide-angle lens can be used to substitute the foreground well, and the foreground can set off the scenery in the background of the picture.
3. Give the portrait more background space
If instead of taking a portrait, you want to substitute the portrait into the background to highlight some subjects, the best way is to use wide angle. The advantage of medium telephoto is to separate the background or reduce the background space to highlight the subject, while the wide-angle lens can stretch the width of the picture to allow more background content to be included in the picture to set off the subject.

However, you still have to pay attention to the environment when shooting portraits with wide angle. After all, too many background environments may cause more interference and make the picture more cluttered.
4. Distortion

There may be some distortion in wide-angle lenses. This problem has been mentioned before. Sometimes, distortion is something we should try our best to avoid. Sometimes, we can use distortion to shoot some creative works, such as trapezoidal distortion at oblique angles, barrel distortion of fisheye lenses, space stretching and so on.
